Statistics of balanced homodyne detection

Abstract

In a balanced homodyne detection scheme, usually the difference signal in two detection channels is analyzed. For example, in squeezing experiments the corresponding variance is recorded.1 To get the full information from such a measurement, however, the statistics of difference counts should be considered.
