Abstract

State-to-state studies of the decomposition of isolated molecules from their ground electronic states are enabled by direct excitation of metastable vibrational, levels. Measurements of the photodissocia lion spectra, product state distributions, and lifetime provide information on the energies and topologies of the potential energy surfaces that are key to chemical bonding and reactivity.
