Abstract

For the past few years, studies have been made of the action of a powerful uv laser on silica glasses containing oxygen-deficient centers (ODC).1-3 It was shown that, in that case, there can occur a uv-laser-induced ODC decay accompanied by a decrease of the intensity associated with the ODC of the absorption band at 248 nm and formation of paramagnetic color centers such as E', featuring art absorption band at 215nm. As a whole, the mechanism of ODC photodecay and formation of E' centers and other photoinduced color centers in silica glass is not quite clear. In particular, among the points to be explained are the roles of reverse reactions and thermal processes in uv protochemistry of ODC
