Abstract

We have extended the observation of laser-induced coherent phonon gratings to semiconductor thin films for the first time. Molecular-beam-deposited (MBD) films of ZnSe were investigated using the time-resolved transient grating technique. The evolution of the diffracted light gives information about carrier trapping, thermal diffusion, and acoustic phonon velocities in the thin films.
