Abstract
In all applications of second-order nonlinear optical methods for the study of surfaces, linearly polarized light has been utilized, and valuable information regarding monolayer structure and dynamics has been obtained. We have initiated studies utilizing circularly polarized light in a surface second-harmonic generation (SHG) experiment. This method yields new information about the structure of molecules adsorbed at an interface.
