Ultrasensitive intracavity spectroscopy with solid-state lasers and the problem of long-term laser frequency stabilization in the 1-µm region

Abstract

The problem of highly coherent light sources with a high level of frequency stability is closely connected to progress in laser spectroscopy because spectroscopic frequency standards are necessary for long-term frequency stabilization. These topics have specific character in the 1-jxm region because hitherto no gas was found to be capable of producing enough strong absorption lines for use as frequency standards in this wavelength range. One of the reasons investigations in this area are interesting is the possibility of creating a highly effective laser frequency standard at the wavelength of the strongest laser transition in Nd3+ ions.
