Abstract
A comprehensive review of theoretical and experimental results on nonlinear guided-wave phenomena in the USSR was presented at the beginning of 1989.1 Since that time, new results on nonlinear fiber optics have been obtained. The most interesting ones are mainly related to investigations of the ultra-short-pulse Raman effect, soliton interactions, amplification of femtosecond pulses in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, and second-harmonic generation.
