Abstract

Early measurements1 of the CO B1Σ+←←X1Σ+ (v′, v″) = (0,0) band found a strong Q branch, an absence of other rotational structures, and a (linear/circular) polarization ratio which was incompatible with the theory of two-photon absorption.2-4 In contrast, the present measurements show the expected O and S branches and reveal that the polarization ratio exceeds 80:1.
