Abstract

Multiphoton ionization (MPI) of rare gas atoms by an intense CO2 laser has beers studied experimentally in the past few years (e.g., Ref. 1). Various models and calculations have been used to fit the ion data with different degrees of satisfication,1,2 In the present work, we attempt to fit both the ion and electron data of CO2 laser ionization of the Xe (Refs. 1 and 3) by using a modified tunnellike model2,4 combined with the ideas of ponderomotive acceleration and above threshold ionization (ATI).
