Abstract

This paper presents systematic ablation plasma studies with the measurement of fast ions in the laser-target interaction. Determination of ablation parameters from ion emission data is based on measuring the total ablated mass and the ablation momentum in the direction normal to the target. Recently, there has been much interest in the phenomena under a line focused configuration when the line-shaped plasma is used as a gain medium for an x-ray laser.
