Abstract
The high lying excited or metastable levels of atoms can be populated by UV or VUV photodissociation of suitable molecules Resonant laser or stimulated Raman scattering can then be generated. This is a very useful method for wavelength inversion. Here we report on an experimental study on atomic Pb laser at 7229 Å, created by visible multiphoton dissociation in Pbl2 and PbCi2.
