Abstract

Crossed beam experiments have been carried out to measure relative state-to-state integral cross sections for rotational excitation in NH2(X˜2B1) -He and NH(X3Σ)–Ar collisions. Pulsed supersonic beams of the free radicals were prepared by 193-nm photolysis of a dilute mixture of ammonia in a seed gas at the tip of the nozzle. The inert gas target was also prepared as a pulsed beam. The final rotational state populations were measured in the collision zone by pulsed laser fluorescence excitation in the Ã2A1X˜2B1 and A3∏←X3Σband systems of NH2 and NH, respectively.
