Abstract

The growth of cadmium sulfide microcrystallites in borosilicate glass has been studied to optimize absorption features indicative of quantum confinement effects.1 A series of samples has been produced which contain microcrystallites with average radius of 12 Å up to bulklike structure. The absorption of these samples was examined as a function of temperature, yielding the same thermal red shift as found for the bandgap reduction in bulk CdS crystals.
