Dynamic processes in large molecular cluster ions

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Large molecular ions of the form Γ2(CO2)n are synthesized and mass selected in a pulsed supersonic expansion. A picosecond laser pulse dissociates the Γ2 chromophore in the cluster, and a second delayed picosecond pulse probes the ensuing recombination or dissociation of the excited cluster. Simple models for the caging process are presented.
