Abstract
An experiment Is currently under way at MIT to measure the angular correlation between the momenta of the β− and emitted in the decay 85Kr→ 85mRb, using the laser-induced nuclear orientation (LINO) technique,1 whereby laser optical pumping of short-lived 85mRb isomers, produced in a gas cell filled with radioactive Kr, aligns their nuclear spins and results in anisotropy in their subsequent γ decay.
