Abstract

Organic materials, in particular π-conjugated systems, hold promise of large values of nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) and very short response times attractive for device applications. Our group has been involved in systematic degenerate four-wave mixing studies of several classes of conjugated organic molecule and polymer with femtosecond resolution. Our objective is to understand the factors governing the relationship between the chemical structure and optical nonlinearities.1
