Abstract
The discovery by Osterberg and Margulis of efficient (>5%) conversion of 1.06-μm light to the second harmonic (0.532 μm) in a phosphorus and germanium-doped glass fiber has resulted in an interesting yet unexplained physical effect which has generated a great deal of excitement in the applications arena.1
