Graphene Photonics

Abstract

The nonlinear optical properties of single and multilayer graphene prepared via chemical vapour deposition (CVD) are studied by employing the Z-scan technique. The closed-aperture Z-scan measurements reveal a giant negative irradiance-dependent nonlinear refraction for both single and multilayer graphene, whereas the saturable absorption (SA) and two-photon absorption (2PA) in graphene are studied via open-aperture measurements. The nonlinear optical properties of graphene-polyvinyl alcohol (G-PVA) composite films are studied as well. The results indicate the thermal damage of the host polymer due to graphene heating and temperature transfer.
