Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel optical transmittance based diagnostic device, which can carry out label-free detection of malaria. The presented device is capable of detecting very low levels of parasitemia (as low as 0.0001 %) in few minutes. With a pair of laser diode and a avalanche photodetector we have recorded optical transmittance values of cells passing through a microfluidic device. The optical transmittance values were recorded and processed using an inexpensive microcontroller.
