Abstract

We report the fabrication and characterization of a fiber optic SPR sensor using Ag/ZnO thin films for the detection of chlorine gas. The sensor probe is prepared by coating the unclad portion of the fiber with silver followed by a thin film of zinc oxide. The transmitted SPR spectra recorded shift towards higher wavelength on increasing the concentration of chlorine gas around the probe in a gas sensor chamber. A shift of about 7 nm of resonance wavelength is observed for 10-50 ppm range of chlorine gas concentration.
