Whispering gallery modes of microcavities for sensing applications

Abstract

Whispering gallery modes (WGMs) of microcavities are extremely sensitive to their size and the refractive index. WGMs of micrometer-sized spheres and cylindrical fibers are used for sensing applications by comparing with theoretical simulations.
