Abstract

Bacteriorhodopsin (BR), a photochromic protein, shows some excellent features for dynamic holographic recording medium. The dynamic diffraction efficiencies of a genetic mutated variant BR (BR-D96N) film for various types of polarization holography were tested and compared. Reflection-type holograms were recorded in the BR-film, which shown the spatial resolution of the film was more than 6000 lines/mm. Phase conjugate reconstruction of holograms revealed that the distortion of the object image could be efficiently corrected. Two images with orthogonal polarizations can be multiplexed stored in the BR-film and reconstructed separately. Double-exposure interferometry was implemented using the BR-film.
