Abstract
Optical waveguides in photorefractive crystals allow observation of some nonlinear optical effects like spatial optical solitons at very low light power. Both the transverse inhomogeneity of photorefraction within waveguides and possible simultaneous propagation of several guided modes along the same direction bring new features to similar nonlinear effects. The subject of our investigation is the influence of these effects to characteristics of dark spatial solitons in planar waveguides in lithium niobate.
