Tunable and Fast THz Detectors based on Quantum Hall Devices with various geometries

Abstract

The THz photoresponse of quantum Hall systems (QHS) is a complex combination of different mechanisms. In this work we separate these parts by varying the electron concentration and the source-drain current. The spectral resolution of the QHS was found improved with increasing values of the source-drain current up to the breakdown of the QH Effect. For different geometries of the detector (meander and Corbino shape) we obtained different response times. In particular, in Corbino shaped detectors we used the Hall- equivalent component of photoresponse, and realized the devices with response times from 20 ns to 150 ns.
