Whispering Gallery Modes Observed in Elastic Scattering from Optically Trapped Emulsion Microdroplets

Abstract

We demonstrate whispering gallery modes (WGMs) observed in elastic scattering from emulsion microdroplets trapped with optical tweezers. WGMs with quality factors up to ~104 exhibited spectral fluctuations illustrating the potential of our scheme for sensing.
