“Tractor Beam” in Microworld

Abstract

Recent theoretical studies demonstrate that micro-particles can be pulled by a laser beam against its propagation axis even without optical gradient force. We present a geometry of such “tractor” beam and experimentally demonstrate its functionality and applications.
