A Nanonewton Optical Force Trap

Abstract

To increase the maximum force of optical tweezers, we fabricated anti-reflection coated, high-refractive index titania microspheres. Using these microspheres, we demonstrate trapping forces exceeding a nanonewton enabling novel experiments in physics and biology.
