Abstract
The tantalizing prospect of employing rectifying antennas (“rectennas”) for solar power conversion will be explored in this presentation. Rectennas are fundamentally distinct from photovoltaic or solar thermal power converters principally because antennas harvest only coherent radiation. The fundamental limits for this novel solar power conversion strategy are evaluated from basic principles of optics and thermodynamics.
