Abstract
Liquid crystal (LC) lenses with relatively small number of multiple ring electrodes and a circular electrode inside coated with highly resistive films on an transparent insulating layer are developed. The interference fringe images of the LC lens can be observed by a polarizing microscope under cross polarizers. The optical phase difference of the LC lens can be estimated by counting the interference fringe. The lens power can be derived by calculating the phase difference and tuned by arranging the voltages applied across the ring electrodes and common electrode.
