A Comprehensive Study of Odd-Order Aspheres: Mathematical Fundamentals of Odd-Order Asphere and Its Applications to Optical Design and Fabrication

Abstract

Odd-order asphere, which is the most generalized rotationally invariant surface type, has become widely used in recent optical designs. Some studies have been made on its optical characteristics and effectiveness; however, its mathematical and optical fundamentals are not clearly discovered. In this session, the author starts with the completeness of Zernike representation for odd-order surfaces. Capabilities of odd-order aspheres on optical design and fabrication will be shown.
