Abstract

The high standards achieved by freeform tooling for optics opened the possibility to use freeform multichannel optical devices. We review its use in nonimaging and imaging optics, in particular in Virtual Reality applications which require novel optical designs to overcome multiple technological challenges: size, weight, increasing its resolution up to the human visual acuity, matching vergence and accommodation.
