Abstract

We discover that a nanosecond 532 nm optical vortex laser pulse forces a gold to form a ‘twisted’ nanoneedle with a tip diameter and a length of 100 nm and 6 μm, respectively. The twisted direction of the needle was assigned by a handedness of the irradiated optical vortex. We also found that the circularly polarized optical vortex increased a winding number of the twisted needle with a help of spin angular momentum.
