Abstract

We investigate the use of coherence multiplexing for optical customer access. Experimental results are presented for a bi-directional passive optical network using a hybrid coherence multiplexing / coarse WDM technique, showing negligible penalties due to dispersion and multi-user crosstalk. The power budget improvement obtained by using an optical amplifier in the downstream link is also quantified.
