Laser Cooling Micromechanical Structures with High-Finesse Optical Cavities

Abstract

We have realized a high-finesse optical cavity which incorporates a micromechanical cantilever. This cantilever’s response to radiation pressure can lead to optical nonlinearity, laser cooling, squeezing, and other quantum optical effects.
