Plasma etching of fused silica substrates for manufacturing high laser damage resistance optical interference coatings

Abstract

Commercially polished fused silica substrates were etched and their optical-physical properties were investigated. Resistance to laser radiation was significantly enhanced and no degradation of surface roughness, flatness or loss in transmission spectra was observed.
