Omnidirectional coatings for telecom applications

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

OmniGuide Optical Fibers. A review of the OmniGuide fiber which utilizes a photonic band gap to guide light through a hollow core will be presented. The unrivaled degree of optical confinement in this fiber provides a mechanism for achieving low loss propagation, reduced non-linearities and interesting dispersion characteristics. Design principles for this fiber as well as current challenges will be discussed
