Abstract

Application fields of the ELID grinding are being spread widely mainly for hard and brittle material finishing. Some new materials as applications of the ELID grinding were attempted to be ground, and the advanced optical fabrication is being conducted by the ELID grinding on ulra/nanoprecision machining systems. Large double sided spherical Fresnel lenses made of plastics are being fabricated through development of ultra/nanoprecision machining process and its machining system technology for specific space telescope and solar light concentration optics. Two fabrication processes have been attempted; direct machining process and replication process via compression molding. Transparent lenses have successfully been fabricated by the developed technologies.
