Abstract

We present and demonstrate a tilted long period fiber gratings (TLPFGs) which were inscribed in an eccentric core fiber (ECF) by a high frequency CO2 laser. The coupling characteristics of ECF-TLPFG were analyzed using coupling mode theory. The curvature and temperature characteristics of the ECF-TLPFG were measured by monitoring the wavelength change of spectrum. The spectral response of ECF-TLPFG to curvature in different bending directions was studied experimentally. Experimental results show that the bending sensitivity of the sensor in the 0 °and 180 °bending directions are -8.81 nm/m-1 and -3.79 nm/m-1, respectively. The temperature sensitivity of the ECF-TLPFG is 57.5pm/°C.
