100 Micron Long Fiber Bragg Gratings: Characterization and applications in ultrafast shock wave measurements

Abstract

Ultrashort (100 μm) FBGs are characterized, and their position is accurately determined by two methods. We demonstrate the grating’s advantages in probing ultrafast changes in pressure caused by shock waves propagating in solid and liquid media.
