Abstract

A novel fiber Bragg gating relative-humidity sensor based on polyimide coating with activated carbon topping layer has been proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By combining the advantages of organic and inorganic materials, sensitivity and stability of the proposed sensor have be improved. Experimental results show that the proposed humidity sensor presents excellent linear behaviors with sensitivity of 1 pm/%RH ranging from 25- 95%RH. Cycling test shows that the maximum deviation is 1% and the fluctuation is ±1 pm. Compared with polyimide coated sensor, the additive of activated carbon can significantly enhance the sensitivity (1.7 times), stability (3 times) and repeatability (4 times).
