Distributed Fiber Optic Strain-Sensing Catheter for Assisted Delivery of Epidural Anesthesia

Abstract

We present the design of a Tuohy catheter for epidural anesthesia, assisted by fiber optic distributed strain sensors, operating by means of optical backscatter reflectometry. The strain maps allow assisting the catheter positioning in situ.
