Abstract

A method is proposed to suppress spontaneous modulation instability and the phase noise in remote interferometric fiber sensing systems. By generating weak sidebands with phase modulation, the induced modulation instability is excited and the power conversion is constrained mainly between the specific sidebands. The experimental results show that spontaneous MI and the phase noise are suppressed significantly. The method can increase the maximum input power in the interferometric optical fiber sensing systems.
