Abstract
An eight channel polarimetric temperature sensor system for hot-spot monitoring in power transformers has been designed and tested. Specially coated Panda polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs) that can stand high temperature of up to 250 °C were fabricated and used as probe fibers. The PMF sensing probes were processed by electric arcs to adjust their linear measurement range. The sensor probes were sealed within thin quartz tubes that have high voltage insulattion and can work in hot oil and vapor environment. Test results show that the measurement accuracy of the system is better than +/−0.5 °C within 0~200 °C.
