Measurement of Concrete Slab Movement and Its Application

Abstract

Optical fibers are embedded in the concrete slabs to measure pavement joint movements due to seasonal environment changes. The average slab expand/ contract rate, joint maximum opening, and maximum compressive and tensile stresses are calculated.
