Abstract

Birefringent fibers with two through-holes at both sides of central core have been fabricated for sensor use. Tension-induced birefringence depending on longitudinal strain is examined in detail for several sampled fibers. A useful diagram is presented for designing and fabricating such birefringent fibers.
