Abstract

We observed a nonlinear response of a two-mode fiber-optic interferometer to longitudinal strain when operated near the cutoff wavelength of the second-order mode. Strong polarization dependence was also observed for an elliptical core two-mode fiber. Theoretical analysis is presented that explains the experimental observation.
