Abstract

Optical self-mixing effects or backscattered intensity modulation in different lasers have been considerably exploited for various applications, such as Laser Doppler Velocimetry(LDV)[1-4], coherent ranging[5-6] and acoustic sensing[7]. The modulation mechanism inside a laser cavity caused by external optical feedback, however, is not well understood, which confines its applications to limited areas.
