Abstract

Phase modulated fiber optic gyroscopes [FOG] are expected to have high accuracy because of their good zero stability. However, their dynamic range has been limited until recently by their nonlinear (sinusoidal) scale factor. Recently considerable effort has been devoted to obtaining a linear scale factor and wide dynamic range. (1)-(3) Through these efforts relatively good linear scale factor has been achieved by measuring the Sagnac phase shift electrically, after transposing the optical phase shift into an electronic phase shift.(3) Experimental results from another method for transposing the phase are reported here. This method can be expected to provide higher measurement accuracy for the rotation-rate.
