Abstract
Inertial velocimeters would offer an alternative to classic inertial navigation based upon gyroscopes and accelerometers. Although they have been considered not to be feasible, new insights and a reevaluation of the Kennedy-Thorndike experiment suggest to pursue the inertial velocimeter as a new approach to inertial navigation.
