Abstract
In some applications such as optical fiber sensing, or in adjustments or measurements of optical devices in optical fiber system, it is necessary to reflect a light propagating in a fiber at the end face of the fiber. Commonly used for fabricating such mirrors is the vacuum evaporation of a metal film or a multilayered dielectic film(1) . It needs, however, rather complex apparatus like a vacuum chamber. In this paper, a simple method to fabricate an optical fiber mirror by plating an alloyed metal of the low melting point is proposed. An application of this simply fabricated mirror to an all optical fiber sensor system is also described.
